SOS History

REACH’s Students Offering Support (SOS) was created after December’s (2016) TXT4Life suicide prevention training in Grand Rapids, MN. Inspired Cloquet High School students wanted to do more about suicide prevention within their school and larger community and partnered with REACH Mentoring to expand their efforts. Together, they created a youth leadership, peer mentoring program named “Students Offering Support” (SOS).

Today, SOS is not offered in 7 Carlton County Schools,
Cloquet: Formed in December 2016
CAAEP: Formed in January 2017
Carlton: Formed in March 2017
FDL: Formed in February 2017
Esko: Formed in October 2017
Moose Lake: Formed in January 2017

REACH staff meet at the schools once a week for 30 minutes to an hour to facilitate that weeks meeting. Guest speakers are scheduled that the students feel would be a good resource for them to learn about and a contact person they can reach out to if they or a friend or family member ever need their services.
