Snowshoe Expedition: No Child Left Inside

Snowshoe Expedition: Students will learn how to travel via one of the oldest forms of human transportation: snowshoes! Students will learn how to properly outfit and use snowshoes, travel across snow-covered terrain, and build a quinzee. During this experience, we will discuss winter ecology, such as the adaptations life makes to survive life in the coniferous forests during harsh winters.

How to dress and what to bring: Students should dress in layers to stay warm. Winter coat and winter pants, winter hat, gloves and insulated boots. Students should bring any needed medications with them such as an inhaler, Epi-pen, glucose tablets, etc.

Duration: Activity will be about 2 hours in length.

Where to Meet: We will meet at the Canoe and Kayak Institute parking lot (also known as The Outpost) in Carlton, MN right off Highway 210, adjacent to the Thomson Dam.
