Swiftwater Adventures Winter Programs with REACH Mentoring
Winter Wildlife Tracks and Adaptions: With a brief background presentation on mammals of northeastern Minnesota and their tracks, we will engage on a short interpretive hike/or snowshoe through a coniferous forest to observe and identify wildlife tracks and animal adaptions to living in the winter snows. After the introductory segment students will break into smaller groups to positively identify at least one set of tracks and mimic a large predator’s tracks in which the other group must identify.
How to dress and what to bring: Students should dress in layers to stay warm. Winter coat and winter pants, winter hat, gloves and insulated boots. Students should bring any needed medications with them such as an inhaler, Epi-pen, glucose tablets, etc.
Duration: Activity will be about 2 hours in length.
Where to Meet: We will meet at the Canoe and Kayak Institute parking lot (also known as The Outpost) in Carlton, MN right off Highway 210, adjacent to the Thomson Dam.
Address: UMD Outpost 903 E. Highway 210 Carlton, MN 55718
